Our sweet Madeline’s nursery is probably one of my favorite rooms in the house (hopefully she loves it as much). It is true to form in that it hits the grey scale that the rest of the house fits into, but with girlish whimsy and pops of peach and mint (and flamingos).
I knew I didn’t want a cookie cutter nursery, one that looked like a display at pottery barn kids (not that those are bad, just not for me), so I used the time in between crawling to the bathroom (blah) to search for unique pieces to start planning the nursery around. I found the flamingo wall bust on etsy and it checked all the boxes: 1. unique and handmade item, 2. not pastel pink, and 3. a unique, whimsical animal theme, so I ordered it and things started to come together, one flamingo leg at a time.
One of my favorite items in the whole nursery is her Cuddle and Kind doll, Aspen (besides the dogs, who I’m fairly sure think this is all for them). Aspen is one of 12 handcrafted dolls you can purchase and for every doll sold, 10 meals are provided to children in need (so amazing right?). Every doll has a little back story, a birthday, and a favorite quote. We picked Aspen because her birthday isn’t too far from Madeline’s expected arrival, so a winter baby too (duh, she’s a penguin) and because her favorite quote is “be yourself, there’s no one better.” I can’t wait for Madeline to snuggle and share secrets with Aspen, who will be there to remind her to ultimately always be her unique self, just like the snowflakes that fall near their birthdays (tear, sniff, tear).
The nursery is actually upstairs and our master is downstairs, so for a bit, this room will serve as a flamingo shrine. We have a little mini nursery set up downstairs in our bedroom with her bassinet, portable changing table, and mamaroo (along with a million diapers, another rocker, grooming items, and anything else I can fit into our linen closet so when she starts freaking out, I only freak out half way). We have officially crossed over into serious baby territory with T-minus 55 days to go.
It’s crazy to think that soon, all these items won’t just be fun reasons to shop online, they will actually (hopefully) make Madeline feel at home (its a pretty big upgrade from her 1 room, rib view apartment). We can’t wait to meet our sweet, Valentine’s baby.
